Newly appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Coconut Technology Centre (CTC).
Sir Francis Billy Hilly, has had an active interest in Direct Micro Expelling (DME®) and plays an important role in the DME® Producers Association.
Sir Francis is one of the largest producers of DME® Virgin Coconut Oil in the Western Province.
Sir Francis was the fourth Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands (18 June 1993 to 7 November 1994) and today Sir Francis is one of the largest producers of DME® Virgin Coconut Oil in the Western Province.
Minister of Commerce, Industry & Employment 2007-2010
He first met Dr Dan Etherington while on an official visit to Australia in 1994. In July 2019 when Dr Dan was re-introduced to him, he reminded Dr Dan of their first meeting at the CSIRO in Canberra and told him how encouraged he was to see somebody in Australia working on a technology aimed at village-level coconut processing. After his Prime Minister-ship, Sir Francis remained in Government, his last position being Minister of Commerce, Industry and Employment December 2007-2010.
Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG)
Already companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG), Sir Francis was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the 2012 Birthday Honours.
Sir Francis' contribution will be invaluable as we continue to build businesses that are agriculturally sustainable and empower the people of the Solomon Islands.
